Living in Eureka
Eureka neighborhoods sit about 20 to 25 minutes east of Peoria in Woodford County, roughly halfway between Peoria and Bloomington-Normal. I lived in Eureka myself, and that halfway point is exactly why it worked so well. When commutes go in both directions, Eureka is a practical home base.
It's a small town with only a stoplight or two. Main Street, which is Route 117, runs north and south through town with the shops, boutiques and small restaurants, and Route 24 runs east and west across the state.

Eureka homes
Close to the town center and the college, many homes are 100 to 150 years old or more. Newer subdivisions sit near the lake, most of them built in the 1990s and early 2000s. Since around 2008 to 2010, only a few homes have been built, one at a time.

Eureka is served by Congerville-Eureka-Goodfield Community Unit School District 140. I always confirm the district for a specific address.
Eureka College is where Ronald Reagan studied. One of my own music teachers attended the college in that same era, which gives the town a special place in my memory. Eureka was also the original Pumpkin Capital of the World, before pumpkin canning moved to Morton. The old brick cannery, built in 1895, is now The Cannery, a wedding and event venue.
Things to do in Eureka
