Peoria Heights neighborhoods have a character all their own. The village sits on the bluffs above the Illinois River, and Grandview Drive, right off Prospect Road, is the big draw. It's a beautiful drive, and one people bring visitors to see.
Prospect Road is the main road through the village. It's lined with higher-end, boutique restaurants, coffee shops, galleries and local shops, and downtown Peoria Heights has become the area's hot spot for nightlife, especially in summer. Some parts of the village are walkable, which is rare around here, though most errands still mean driving.

Peoria Heights neighborhoods and homes
The homes here reflect the village's age. You'll find craftsman bungalows, brick colonials, Tudors and mid-century ranches on tree-lined streets, many of them 80 to 120 years old. Original woodwork and real front porches are common, and no two streets feel quite the same.
Because so much of Peoria Heights is older, it isn't divided into subdivisions with names and entrance signs the way newer areas are. People describe where they live by the main streets instead:
- Prospect Road, the main thoroughfare. In Peoria Heights it runs from Knoxville Avenue to War Memorial Drive (Route 150), then continues on toward downtown Peoria.
- Glen Avenue, Lake Avenue and Harvard Avenue, the other main streets through the village.
- Grandview Drive, the scenic drive along the bluff.
The stretch of Prospect between Glen and Lake holds most of the shops, boutiques, local restaurants, specialty ice cream shops and music venues. It's where people gather on Friday and Saturday nights in the summer, and it stays busy indoors through the winter. Homes within a few blocks of it put you close to the restaurants and nightlife, and homes near Grandview put you close to the view.

Things to do in Peoria Heights
Drive Grandview Drive at sunset, walk Prospect Road for coffee or dinner, and spend a summer evening downtown.
Don't miss Tower Park. Its 200-foot water tower has three observation decks, reached by a glass elevator, with gorgeous views over the Illinois River Valley. The village calls it the only structure of its kind in the country. The tower opens seasonally, so check the village's hours before you go. It's a personal favorite of mine: in 2012, my band and I played at the very top of it for the pilot of a local TV show, Heartland Sound…Staged.
Peoria is right next door, and Germantown Hills is across the river.
