What surprises people moving to Illinois?
Property taxes, most often. They can change a monthly payment as much as the interest rate, so we'll look at them early.
Is North Peoria in the Peoria or Dunlap school district?
It depends on the address. Most homes north of Willow Knolls Road are in Dunlap School District 323, and most south of it are in Peoria District 150, but the boundary zigzags, so I always check.

What relocation looks like in North Peoria
Peoria's north side, where I do much of my work, with quick access to Route 6.
- The homes
- Between War Memorial Drive and Route 6, most homes and subdivisions were built in the 1960s and 1970s, with Northgate Park from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s. North of Route 6, most homes were built from the early 1990s to 2010, with the biggest building boom from 2000 to 2007 and slower building since. Several condo communities sit close together along Willow Knolls Road.
- Schools people ask about
- Either Peoria Public Schools District 150 (Richwoods High School) or Dunlap School District 323 (Dunlap High School). Most homes north of Willow Knolls Road are in Dunlap, most south of it are in Peoria, and the line zigzags, so it's always worth checking a specific address.
- Getting around
- Allen Road runs north from War Memorial Drive, past the Pioneer Industrial Park, to Route 6. Willow Knolls Road crosses Allen Road and is roughly where the Peoria and Dunlap school districts meet.
