- About 20 minutes north of Peoria. Route 29 runs through town, and River Road between Peoria and Chillicothe is a scenic drive along the Illinois River. Caterpillar's Mossville plant is just down the road. Freight trains still run through town, though the old Amtrak stop is gone.

- Small shops and eateries in town, the Chillicothe Public Library, and several gas stations along Route 29. Shore Acres Park, down by the river, has the Shore Acres Pool, ball diamonds, the Shore Acres Clubhouse for rentals, and a newer inclusive playground designed for people of all abilities.
