- Mostly older homes, many 100 to 150 years old, and hardly any new construction, apart from one small subdivision likely built in the 1990s. On the outskirts, and between Lacon and Henry or Lacon and Spring Bay, you'll find homes on acreage, some newer, all built one at a time.

- Midland Community Unit School District 7, which serves Lacon, Sparland and Varna, with Midland Elementary School in Lacon.
- Getting around
- The Marshall County seat, on the Illinois River, roughly half an hour north of Peoria, just south of Henry. A small town with about one stoplight.
- Nearby
- A historic courthouse square and walkable downtown. Boaters on the Illinois River dock in Lacon, and there are small eateries right along the river. A gas station and places of worship in town.
